There is a major difference with our hunting and that is our location on the West Coast of the South Island. The West Coast of New Zealand is in the rainforest side of the island and is very thick ferns and bush. This gives us the benefit of having heavy cover to hunt in, the animals heavy cover to hide in and dark antlers on the stags. This is a stark difference to where most of the outfitters are on the east side of the alps where it is very dry and quite barren and mostly the stags have very pale white antlers.
The other major difference is how we do our tahr hunts in the wilderness areas on the west coast. We do have other options but this is our preferred option and we use a helicopter to access a spike camp where we hunt on foot from there. This hunt can be as challenging as the hunter wants it and the terrain is very inspiring!
